Sustainability

SP AusNet invests in Sustainability

To celebrate the fourth anniversary edition of our monthly newsletter, we are happy to be able to celebrate the success of one of our earliest customers!  Corporate sustainability is an important issue in today’s business environment and SP AusNet is a leader the area. They have recently produced a report detailing their focus on building sustainable practices, both for their employees and as a part of their community - and have included a sustainable workforce as a key part.

This initiative includes strategic workforce planning measures, a key feature of which is the introduction of Aruspex's strategic workforce planning software to help build a sustainable workforce for the future.  Using CAPTure has enabled SP AusNet to identify three key groups of employees that are critical to their strategy: field employees, network operations employees and engineers - as you can read in their full sustainability report.

To skill for the future, SP AusNet are introducing measures to attract a new generation of talent and help retain the current skilled workforce. This includes a 5 year HR plan focused on developing an employee value proposition and the introduction of programs focused on subjects such as diversity and culture. They are also encouraging age and gender diversity by providing benefits designed to attract these groups.

SP AusNet won the Australian Human Resource Institute 2008 award for People Management Initiative of the Year, which is unsurprising in an organization who understand that their workforce is a key part of their success and sustainability!  Congratulations to them.

Book Review

Business Planning in Turbulent Times

The world around us is changing quickly, and businesses need to know how to how to deal with the turbulent environment.

A new book from Rafael Ramirez, John W Selsky and Kees van der Heijden shows readers how to organizations can deal with this uncertainty by exploring alternative futures.

The book is aimed at business leaders who want to take charge of their futures. It uses straight-forward language and real life examples to teach readers how to address risks using modern scenario techniques.  Kees van der Heijden is an Aruspex favorite for Scenario Planning, and it's timely to have an update on these practices specifically targeted at "turbulent times"....since many people use that turbulence as an excuse not to plan!  No more excuses - here are specific ways to apply key futuring and planning techniques in these times.

Scenario planning is a key part of the Aruspex approach to workforce planning, and understanding how to facilitate business leaders to develop workforce scenarios is a key skill for workforce planners.   To learn more about how we help organizations build and leverage these skills, visit our website or contact us today - or sign up for one or our workshops and get the skills yourself!
