Workforce Planning Roundtable -
Founded in 2004, the Workforce
Planning Roundtable is a free, member based group of workforce planning
practitioners, run by and for workforce planning leaders at large
organizations, helping one another become better at workforce planning.
We recommend membership to all workforce planners, but if you aren’t a member,
or haven’t been attending meetings lately, we thought we’d let you know that
2009 is shaping up to be a huge year for the group. In addition to a
library of articles, summary of workforce planning events and the ability to
network with members on the site, the roundtable also features an educational
program. In response to member interest around how WFP efforts have
changed given the current economic climate, recent meetings have featured a
survey of how leading companies are shifting WFP efforts in response to the
slowdown in the economy and a review of publicly available data sources useful
in orienting WFP efforts, given budget constraints. The roundtable
committee also recently worked with Towers Perrin to get a better understanding
of the needs of the group. Some of the key findings of the study were:
· Workforce planning has
become more critical in the current business and economic environment (20% say
it is significantly more critical and 51% say that it is more critical)
· Overall, the majority
of organizations view their efforts as only moderately effective (63%) or not
effective (24%), with a lot of room for improvement. Focus and experience are
among the key drivers of greater effectiveness, but more research on this
front.
· Respondents view
linking the workforce plan with the business plan as the most critical aspect
of workforce planning
· Organizations define
workforce planning related solutions as broad in scope, covering a number of
talent concerns, including recruiting, training, succession, restructuring and
rewards
