Article from our partner Cornerstone on Demand: Why Does Talent Management Fail?

Talent management can empower your employees to thrive and help your organization retain them. But the irony is that most talent management solutions are missing the one critical component that will make that business impact a reality - learning.

When you download this paper, you'll discover how learning is essential for:
  • Onboarding: Avoid making new hires sink or swim in your organization.
  • Performance: Develop employees in the middle, not just high and low performers.
  • Succession: Do more than just identify skill gaps, actually address them.
  • Compensation: It's not just about the money.
  • Social networking: Don't hide the knowledge and expertise in your organization.
Make the most out of the talent management initiatives in your organization.

Book Review: Strengths-Based Leadership

Strengths-Based Leadership is Gallup's third book based on their research into strength-building. In this books, Tom Rath and Barry Conchie shows you how you can use your strengths to improve your leadership skills.

The central thesis is that understanding your strengths and setting yourself apart from other leaders is what defines a good leader. Rath and Conchie also emphasize teamwork, and suggest that effective leaders will surround themselves with the right people and will build upon their strengths.

Overall, the book identifies three keys to being a more effective leader: knowing your strengths and investing in others' strengths, getting people with the right strengths on your team, and understanding and meeting the four basic needs of those who look to you for leadership.

Although based exclusively on Gallup's research, the book builds on Rath's previous titles and provides some interesting insight into how you can maximise your strengths as a leader.
